Facilities

The Computer Science Information Technology department provides a number of shared computing resources to support the various instructional programs. The CSIT department provides the following facilities to support its instructional programs:

  • CISCO lab consisting of 25 workstations and four racks of Cisco equipment to support the Cisco Networking Academy.
  • Linux lab consisting of 30 workstations and Linux servers to support application development, virtual and cloud computing courses.
  • Apple Application development and System Administration lab consisting of 36 Apple Mac Mini computers.
  • CompTIA Security+ lab hosted by NetLAB technology capable of supporting 30 on-campus or remote students.
  • EMC Storage Technology lab hosted by NetLAB technology capable of supporting 30 on-campus or remote students.
  • Three general purpose computer labs with a total of 120 Windows workstations for computer programming, web design and development, Microsoft system and applications, Oracle database programming, and computer literacy programs.

All of the above labs are supported by a highly experienced instructional assistant and trained student tutors.

There is one 20 workstation open lab in which students have full access to a wide range of hardware and software resources including Microsoft Visual Studio, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, Office 2010, Linux Scientific CentOS, Apple Mac OSX, Adobe web premium and a variety of other applications.

In order to keep up with the trends in Information Technology, Computer Science has established the following Industry Academic Alliances:

  1. Microsoft
  2. CISCO
  3. EMC for information storage
  4. Oracle for database development
  5. Apple’s University Alliance
  6. CompTIA for Computer A+ and Security+ certification.

These Industry Academic Alliances allow faculty and students to access numerous valuable resources either free of charge or at a significantly reduced cost.
