BSU Pathway at West

BLACK HISTORY MONTH 2024 Stop by an event

West Los Angeles College is re-establishing a physical and online space for students along with campus and community leaders to focus on Black / African-American students and their success. Since our opening day in 1969, Black students have played a critical role in shaping the college and have been one of our largest student populations. As we continue to realize our vision of providing “A pathway to success for every student,” we want to be mindful that West continues to offer a responsive and nurturing environment for our students of color.

The BSU pathway will aim to provide Black students with the academic preparation, support services, and life skills coaching to earn a degree or certificate at West, transfer to competitive universities, and confidently enter the workforce to excel in roles from the front lines to the highest seats of leadership.

In addition to student success, BSU is interested in creating a welcoming community, a safe place, opportunities for students to connect with each other and mentors, to voice concerns, and a space to proudly celebrate Black culture.

With input from students, faculty and data, the BSU pathway will continually evolve to be sure we are delivering the environment, education, services and care that our students deserve.
