Science Prerequisites

Many science courses require that you meet prerequisites in order to enroll. Check the college catalog for more details.

The prerequisite courses listed in the college class schedule / catalog are courses offered here at West Los Angeles College. However, there are many classes offered at other colleges, including other LACCD colleges, that can be used to meet the prerequisites. Acceptance of outside courses to meet prerequisites requires approval.

IN ORDER TO GAIN APPROVAL, FOLLOW THESE STEPS

Submit one of the following forms:

OPTION A

STEP 1: Complete the PREREQUISITE & ASSESSMENT COMPLETION FORM... link to form

Use this form if you took a class at another school that meets the WLAC prerequisite and that outside course is OBVIOUSLY the same as the WLAC required prerequisite.

Examples:
At another college, you took Intro to Biology with a Lab which is equivalent to WLAC's BIOLOGY 003: Introduction to Biology
At another college, you took Trigonometry with Vectors which is equivalent to WLAC's MATH 241: Trigonometry with Vectors

STEP 2: TO SUBMIT THE FORM TO ADMISSIONS

Follow the instructions on the form, include your @email email address, and submit directly to admissions.

OPTION B

STEP 1: Complete the PREREQUISITE CHALLENGE FORM... link to form

Use this form if you took a class at another school that is similar to the WLAC prerequisite but perhaps not the same. Or, if you met the prerequisite through achievement on a test or work experience. When in doubt about which form to use, go with this one - the Prerequisite Challenge Form.

STEP 2. Complete the first page of the form – be sure to include your student@laccd.edu email.

STEP 3. Obtain unofficial or official transcripts that show a ‘C’ grade or better for the course you believe to be equivalent.

STEP 4. Submit the challenge form and transcripts to the appropriate faculty member listed below.

STEP 5: The faculty will then submit your documentation on your behalf. Do NOT try to submit the form directly to Admissions on your own.

STEP 6: You will receive an email indicating whether or not approval has been granted.

STEP 7: If approval is granted, your professor can then give you a Permission Number (Add Code) if you are accepted to add the course (see how to video).

Please note that being cleared to add a course is NOT acceptance into the course.
Your professor has the final say as to whether you can add their course.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The College will only email your approval to YOUR LACCD EMAIL, no other. Therefore it is critical to include your LACCD student email on the form.

Submit your Prerequisite Challenge Form to the appropriate faculty member below
