Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) Information

The Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) was authorized by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act and signed into law on March 27, 2020. The fund was later supplemented by the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations (CRRSAA) Act and the American Rescue Plan (ARP). Funds were distributed to institutions of higher education, including West Los Angeles College, to address the disruptions caused by COVID-19. West Los Angeles College has completed and returned the Department of Education Certification and Agreement for receipt of the funds.

Student Portion

West Los Angeles College has been allocated a total of $7,663,025 to address direct student aid needs. Direct aid is intended for students whose lives have been impacted by the coronavirus and must be used for expenses related to the disruptions due to the coronavirus, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and childcare expenses.

Eligibility criteria for Spring 2022 include:

  1. Active enrollment in at least 1-unit credit or non-credit class for Fall 2021 as of award date
  2. Demonstrated financial need through at least one of the following:
    1. California College Promise Grant (CCPG) awarded
    2. Complete FAFSA
    3. Completed application for financial assistance

HEERF grants are disbursed through BankMobile. To receive the funds, students may opt to set up accounts with BankMobile, directly deposit to their own bank accounts, or receive paper checks. For further instructions, please visit www.refundselection.com.
