Forget the traditional supervisory model—our hands-on practicum program provides direct, practical experience, helping you fast-track your journey toward appraisal licensure in California. With real-world lab and fieldwork, this program makes appraisal licensing accessible, preparing you for Residential License Appraiser and Certified Residential License Appraiser licenses.

Two Programs To Advance Your Career

  • Residential License Appraiser Practicum I
    • Duration: 1+ year
    • Experience Hours: 1,000
    • Focus: Learn the basics and gain field experience.
  • Certified Residential License Appraiser Practicum II
    • Duration: 6+ Months
    • Experience Hours: 500
    • Focus: Elevate your skills with advanced techniques.

Where This Leads:

  • Practicum I aligns with the experience requirement for the California Residential License Appraiser (AL)
  • Practicum II aligns with the experience requirement for the California Certified Residential Appraiser (AR)

Choose a Pre-Qualifying Path to Get Started:

  1. West Los Angeles College Real Estate Courses (for Practicum I & Practicum II)
    • Real Estate 07: Real Estate Finance I 

    • Real Estate 09: Real Estate Appraisal I 

    • Real Estate 10: Real Estate Appraisal II 

    • Real Estate 39: Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal (USPAP) 

    • Real Estate 40: Residential Report Writing and Case Studies 

    • These additional classes will be required to apply for licensing (but are not required for program entry): 

      • Vocational Education 197CE: Supervisor/Trainee Appraiser
      • Vocational Education 198CE: Federal & State Laws and Regs. for CA Appraisers 
  2. Licensing (Use Your License To Qualify For Our Program)
    • AT - CA Appraiser Trainee License (for Practicum I)
    • AL - CA Residential License Appraiser (for Practicum II)
  3. WLAC Certificate
    • Real Estate Appraiser I (for Practicum I & Practicum II)
  4. Military Experience Equivalent to BREA Licensing

All lower-division general education courses must be completed with a grade of C or better. Students who have made significant progress toward completing their general education prerequisites are still encouraged to apply.

*  An AQB/BREA-approved Elimination of Bias course (2 hours) and a Cultural Competency course (1 hour) are required to obtain BREA licenses; however, they are not prerequisites for our Practicum programs.
