Entry Level Programs


Addiction Studies

In as little as 2 years, you can prepare to help others find a new direction in their lives and begin the road to recovery.

geriatric nursingCertified Nursing Assistant (CNA) & Home Health Aide (HHA)

Our Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate program (Nursing 399A) is a 9-week class that offers everything you need to become eligible for employment as a Nursing Assistant in a variety of settings. Most students choose to follow the CNA class with the 4-week Certified Home Health Aide course (Nursing 399B) to be eligible to work with homebound individuals and in assisted living facilities.


Dental Assistant in clinicDental Assistant

The Dental Assisting Program offers a Certificate of Achievement in Dental Assisting and Associate Degree in Dental Assistant. Upon completion of the program and approval of the Dental Board of California (DBC) the student will be eligible to take the California State Board Examination to be a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA).

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) at UCLA

EMT education (Allied Health 52) is offered in partnership with UCLA in 3-week, 7.5-week, and 10-week formats. EMT training and work experience are required to become a Paramedic or Firefighter Paramedic. West students must apply to UCLA directly for admission to this program.

Allied Health Division now offers Health Occupation Courses, allowing students to earn electronic certificates recognized by the health care industry and the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce.



stethescopeMedical Assistant 

The goal of the West Los Angeles College Medical Assisting Program is to develop competent entry level Medical Assistants competent in the cognitive, affective and psychomotor learning domains.Students completing the program are eligible to be certified as an Administrative Medical Assistant, Clinical Medical Assistant or both Administrative and Clinical Medical Assistant.



Pharmacy Technician

Pharmacy Technician is among the fastest growing occupations in California. Pharmacy technicians primarily assist the pharmacist, review prescriptions for completeness and authenticity, help prepare and distribut mediations, control inventory, place orders and assist in payment and billing. West offers both a "For-Credit" certificate and degree program and a Westside Extension career training path to prepare for a career as a Pharmacy Technician. Both paths meet the state requirements to obtain a State of California Pharmacy Technician license allowing you to work in retail pharmacies, hospitals, and other healthcare settings.

The Associate of Science in Public Health Science for Transfer (AS-T) Degree prepares students for transfer to a Bachelor of Science program in a California State University (CSU).

The Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene provides the opportunity to enter into a variety of dental health positions in teaching, research, administration, public health, private industry, and other areas of hygiene practice, as well as application for entry into degree programs such as Master's in Dental Hygiene, Public Health, Oral Biology or Registered Dental Hygienist in Alternative Practice.

This full-time program is for EMTs and other entry level healthcare providers who want to take their clinical patient care skills to the next level. West students must apply to UCLA directly for admission to this program.

Continuing Education Courses 

West Los Angeles College is a California Dental Board approved C.E. provider, offering courses in Dental Radiation Safety, 8-Hour Infection Control, and Pit and Fissure Sealants.

Dental Hygienist in clinicRDHAP Program

Each year, the RDHAP Program offers a Spring and Fall Symposium:

The January (or Winter) Symposium highlights RDHAP Owner Independent Practice. In the morning, speakers discuss RDHAP, starting a practice, and patient care delivery. The RDHAP scope of practice and requirements for licensure are presented.

The afternoon focuses on Denti-Cal; current billing practices, covered benefits, and how to avoid billing errors. The speaker, a Denti-Cal provider training expert, will provide on-line resources, and the most current information about California’s Denti-Cal program. It is designed for current and future RDHAPs.

The October (or Fall) Symposium provides participants with 3 hours of CE credit. In the morning, speakers discuss RDHAP, starting a practice, and patient care delivery. The RDHAP scope of practice and requirements for licensure are presented.

In the afternoon following the Symposium, an RDHAP BUSINESS PLANNING EVENT provides hands-on, practical education to operate a successful RDHAP practice. Tuition is $300 and is applicable towards tuition of the RDHAP program.  Participants receive 2 hours of CE credit.
