Online College - Online Counseling


Online Counseling is a service offered through the college by way of Internet.  It provides assistance to students making decisions regarding educational, career, and personal concerns.  The fundamental goal of the Counseling Division is to provide opportunities for students to clarify their values, their goals, to cultivate self-confidence, develop self-direction and foster self-esteem.   Modes of modality are typically offered by email, real-time chat and video conference chat (Oovoo). 


Online counseling services include:

  • Selecting a degree path
  • Understanding what classes you needed to earn your degree
  • How to “transfer” your course credits to a university once you have completed your selected degree or classes


Online counselors are available to assist you with:

  • Abbreviated Student Educational Plans (ASEP)
  • Comprehensive Student Educational Plans (CSEP)
  • Assistance with Course Repeat/Line Out and Academic Renewal
  • Referrals to additional Student Success and Support Services

Counselors are available by e-chat (a live back and forth conversation online), email and phone. 

Please use the counselor Cafe Card below to schedule a Video Chat Appointment. When scheduling a video appointment or using the “Live Chat” virtual walk-in you must be prepared to collaborate in real-time with your counselor. The counselor will be using share screen, whiteboard and document sharing applications within the video meeting space. Please join the video meeting on a COMPUTER; all laptop and desktop Apple/Mac/PC will work for virtual counseling sessions. Please DO NOT use a cell phone for your video appointment.

To Live Chat with a counselor please follow the steps below.

Step 1: Select the “Live Chat” tab on the online counselor card
Step 2: Create an account or login to your account 
Step 3: Wait for pop-up window to appear to start Live Chat


Live Chat Live Chat is similar to an instant message or text message. Live Chat is only appropriate for the following services: 

  • Quick counseling related questions
  • Change of Major
  • Update educational goal

Video Chat Appointments can be scheduled between the following hours:

Monday: 9:00-11:30        
Tuesday:  12:00-3:00 & 1:00-3:00   5:00-7:00
Wednesday: 9:00-11:30 & 1:00-3:00 & 5:00-7:00
Thursday: 12:00-3:00 & 8:30-10:30 & 12:30-2:30


To schedule a Video Chat Appointment with a counselor please follow the steps below.

• Step 1: Select the “Schedule Appointment” tab on the online counselor card
• Step 2: Select your date and time 
• Step 3: Login to your account or create an account by selecting “Register Here”
• Step 4: Add the reason for your appointment and your student ID number in the comments area
• Step 5: Confirm your appointment by selecting “Make Appointment.”
**A confirmation email will be sent to the email address that you provided. On the day and time of your appointment, be sure to select the link provided within the email.

Video Video Chat is comparable to "facetime" or "Skype".

Any service can met through video chat. However, it is most appropriate for the following: 

  • Educational planning (CSEP/Ed Plans)
  • Graduation Petitions
  • CSU/IGETC Certifications
  • Clarification of college procedures and policies -Certificate, Degree, and transfer requirements
  • Transferability of WLAC courses
  • Review of out-of-district transcripts


Video Chat Appointment Requirements: 

• Use a laptop or desktop computer
• Use Chrome or Firefox as your web browser (Chrome is preferred)
• Shut down all other webpages for a faster connection
• Have a microphone and webcam activated
