WLAC Online Subject Tutoring

Get FREE tutoring through West’s new Online Tutoring Program. Help with math and other subjects are conveniently accessed while you are at home or anywhere you have internet access. Tutoring is available in any Canvas course by selecting the "Net Tutor" tab. If you don't see this tab or do not have a current class on Canvas, you can sign up for free online tutoring. Online Tutoring Now Available in Canvas!

We are happy to announce that free online tutoring is now available through Canvas! The service is called NetTutor, and it can be accessed through Canvas as long as you are in a class that is using Canvas.

NetTutor provides live tutoring in many subjects. As you’re working on homework or writing papers, we encourage you to take full advantage of tutoring. NetTutor tutors are available for live sessions, to answer submitted questions, and to review papers 24 hours a day, any day of the week. All questions and writing submissions to NetTutor will be returned with your tutor’s comments within 48 hours.


How to Access Online Tutoring

If you are in a class that is using Canvas:

  1. Log into Canvas
  2. Enter one of your classes, and
  3. Click on "NetTutor" in the links on the left. Make sure to allow pop-ups in your browser!

The WLAC Online Writing Lab (OWL)

West Los Angeles College's Online Writing Lab (OWL) offers FREE tutoring in writing for all WLAC classes, including English, History and other courses requiring writing assignments.

Assistance Available at the OWL

At the WLAC OWL you can obtain assistance with the following:

Online Tutoring assistance is provided by the campus Writing Lab instructional assistant and Writing Lab tutors. Tutoring is delivered using the Canvas online course management system.


Accessing the OWL

To gain access to the OWL, simply enroll in TUTOR 001. Once enrolled, you will see the Tutoring course card when you login to Canvas.

Enroll anytime during the semester to access free online tutoring. You can even enroll online via the LACCD Student Information System


Navigating the OWL

Once you have entered the OWL course in Canvas do the following:

  • Use the DISCUSSION area to post questions and the instructions that go with the rough drafts that are submitted.
  • Use the ASSIGNMENTS area to submit your writing for review.
  • Use CHAT for real-time communication with the tutoring staff.

Also, please feel free to come visit the campus Writing Lab for an in-person demo of the OWL. The campus Writing Lab is located on the 1st floor of the library (HLRC).

Tutors will be checking the Online Writing Lab Web site to help WLAC students who have enrolled in TUTOR 001 and would like help with WLAC writing assignments.
