Step 1. Learn About West LA College
West is an accredited California Community College that issues Certificates and Associate Degrees that provide a clear pathway to university transfers and career preparation. We also offer a specialized Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Dental Hygiene.
West also provides FREE TUITION to first-time freshmen of any age and income who commit to full-time enrollment through the West LA College Promise Program. Students must have a high school diploma (or equivalent), be considered a first-time college student (i.e. no credit coursework after high school), and have CA residency or meet AB540 status.
To qualify for the Promise Program, you must follow steps #2-6 below:
Step 2. Apply to West LA College
If you already have an LACCD ID# and have taken an LACCD college course within the last year, you can skip this step. If not, please
Complete the online application to West LA College.

Note: You will receive an email with your LACCD ID# 2-5 business days after completing the online application to West LA College. If you do not receive this email within this timeframe, please contact the Admissions Office at admissions@wlac.edu or live chat.
Step 3. Complete the FAFSA or CA Dream Act
Federal School Code: 008596. Students should only complete one of the applications (not both).

FAFSA - Application for U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and T visa holders.

CA Dream Act - Application for undocumented students, students with a valid or expired DACA, U visa holders, and students with temporary protected status (TPS).

Step 4. Complete Matriculation (Orientation, Assessment, Counseling)

Option #1: Log into your student portal, click on "Student Status," select "Orientation," select "Orientation" again, and review the slides until you get to the confirmation screen.

Option #2: Attend an in-person West LA College Promise Workshop on the following dates/times in the Welcome Center! (located on the first floor of the TLC building, room 120)

Assessment - On your student portal, click on "Student Status" and select "Assessment Result."

If your assessment comes out blank, click on "To Do List & Holds" select "English & Math Placement" and complete the webform.

If this is not on your to-do list, email the Welcome Center at wlac-pathways@laccd.edu to request for it to be added.

Counseling - West LA College Promise students will have a first-semester student education plan created by their College Promise Counselor during the Summer Transition Program.

The WLAC Summer Transition Classes prepare you to succeed in college by helping you research and document your educational and career goals, develop an action plan to achieve them, and learn to self-evaluate your progress. Students who complete all three courses will receive a College Readiness Certificate.
These classes are REQUIRED for the West LA College Promise Program.

Note for Class of 2022: If you have previously enrolled in an LACCD college course as a dual/concurrent high school student, you may have a hold on your account that prevents you from enrolling in Summer 2022 and Fall 2022 classes. To remove this hold, submit the High School Graduation Update Form to admissions@wlac.edu using your LACCD email or personal email on your student account. Please attach a Photo ID to verify your identity.
Step 6. Enroll in Fall 2022 Classes
Review your student education plan or visit the program mapper site for a list of class recommendations based on your intended program.
