TRiO Upward Bound

 

The TRiO Upward Bound Program is part of the Federal TRiO programs and was authorized through the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 (P.L. 88-452).  The program prepares high school students for success in postsecondary education through a summer-instructional component; instruction in subjects including mathematics, science, and foreign language; mentoring; and exposure to cultural events.  There are currently 770 Upward Bound Programs throughout the United States.

 

WLAC Upward Bound Program Information and Qualifications

The West Los Angeles College Upward Bound Program provides academic support services such as after-school tutoring, SAT preparation, Saturday Enrichment Sessions, and 6-week summer program for Crenshaw and Dorsey High School students.

 

Mission

Upward Bound provides academic assistance and develops skills and motivation in students who are ready to go to college.

Spring Field Trips

Don't forget to sign-up for our upcoming field trips during your Spring Break.

 

Los Angeles Lakers Game - Tuesday, April 11 - 5:30 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.

 

Universal Studios Educational and Recreational Tour - Thursday, April 13 - 7:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.

 

Sign-up for the field trip at tutoring.  SPACE IS LIMITED!  We will provide food and UB t-shirts, which are required to be worn for the visit.

  • Information on Financial Aid and Scholarship Opportunities
  • Assistance with College Entrance Requirements
  • Monthly Stipends available for qualified participants
Program Eligibility
To qualify for the program, participants must:
  • Have completed 8th grade.
  • Be between the ages of 13 – 19.
  • Meet low-income family guidelines OR be a potential first-generation college student.
  • Want to go to college.
  • Be available to attend workshops and classes during a 6-week summer program at WLAC.
  • Be a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.

Tutoring Schedule

CRENSHAW HIGH SCHOOL

Mondays and Wednesdays

3:15 – 4:30pm     Room 102

 

DORSEY HIGH SCHOOL 

Tuesdays and Thursdays

3:15 – 4:30pm     Bungalow 45

*Please note that we are now tutoring in Bungalow 45 at Dorsey HS.

 

Remember: Tutoring is required for all participants who attained less than a 2.50 GPA or a grade of “C” or lower in any subject area during the previous grading period.

 

We will tutor on minimum days for 1 hour after dismissal time.

Saturday Academy Schedule

All Saturday Academies are held at West Los Angeles College from 8:00am – 12 noon in the Fine Arts Building, Room 306.  Breakfast will be provided.
