As
a NASA SCHOLAR, your mission will be
MATH SUCCESS |
The
Math Success Project is a Special Program of the United
Negro College Fund and NASA. The primary goal of this
program is to improve the success of West Los Angeles
College Students in mathematics and science through
student support, curriculum change, and enrichment activities.
The
Project is a partnership with Dorsey High School .
The outcome of this project is to increase the numbers
of students transferring to four year colleges and universities.
NASA
SCHOLAR will receive:
• Personalized math tutoring and peer support
in a small group setting.
• Field trips to research labs, universities,
and museums such as
* Body Works II at the California
Science Center.
* Einstein! at the Skirball Cultural
Center.
* The Caltech Jet Propulsion Lab.
* The Mount Wilson Observatory.
* Engineering Laboratories at
UCLA and USC.
•
“ Real world Mathematics” enrichment
projects.
• “ Loaner” graphing calculators
and
instruction in their use.
• Summer Internship opportunities.
• Certification as a “ NASA Scholar”
upon completion of the program.
You
may become a NASA SCHOLAR if you:
• Plan to transfer to a four-year college or
university.
• Have taken the West Los Angeles College math
assessment test.
• Enroll in an appropriate Mathematics course
at
WLAC.
• Concurrently enroll in Math 100 ( Math Workshop).
• Commit to participate regularly in your tutoring
group, attend selected filed trips and lectures,
and complete enrichment modules at your own
mathematical level.
