Welcome to the West Los Angeles College Student Learning Outcomes web page. This site will be periodically updated to share the progress we are making in the identification and assessment of SLOs at our campus. If you have SLO work completed and would like to document it, please contact me at matosit@wlac.edu.

 

Each year, faculty attend workshops that prepare them to create lessons which focus on a specific program SLO. They develop a rating scale to grade the assignments students produce as a result of these lessons, and then post model student work which illustrate A, B, C, D, and F grades in relation to the SLO. Faculty also post a self evaluation stating what was learned during the process as well as what might be modified or changed in the next course offering.

In this way, West calibrates course grades with SLO achievement and shows how faculty evaluate student achievement. It's very possible that instruction might be modified as a result of this process in order to help more students achieve their SLOs. This process should produce a reliable cycle of -- design, develop, pilot-test, evaluate, modify--if necessary--test again--as we move forward with our SLO process.

Spring 2013: The SLO Committee meets the third Monday of the month from 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm in Winlock.
