COMPUTER SCIENCE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY 930   4.00 Units
MICROCOMPUTER APPLICATION SOFTWARE (CSU)


RECOMMENDED: CSIT 901 or equivalent experience. DESCRIPTION: This course illustrates how the Microsoft Office 2010 software package can be used to solve typical business problems. Students will use EXCEL, WORD, PowerPoint, ACCESS and Share Point. Share point is a server based solution from Microsoft for managing and provisioning of intranet portals, extranets and websites, document management and file management, collaboration spaces, social networking tools.

PREREQUISITE: Completion of English 21 with a grade of 'C' or better or appropriate placement level demonstrated through English assessment process. DESCRIPTION: English 28 gives students practice in paragraph construction and essay writing, with an emphasis on critical thinking and critical reading of non-fiction essays and books.

ENGLISH 101   3.00 Units
COLLEGE READING AND COMPOSITION I (UC:CSU)


PREREQUISITE: Completion of English 28 or ESL 8 with a grade of 'C' or better or appropriate placement level demonstrated through the English assessment process. DESCRIPTION: This is a college-level freshman composition course which focuses on expository writing and argumentation and requires the writing of a minimum of 6000 words in essays and a research paper. Students study a variety of texts written at the college level, including literature, that reflect current academic concerns relating to issues of language, ethnicity, class, gender, identity, psychology, and cultural studies. The course is intended for students who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university.

COMPOSITION AND CRITICAL THINKING (UC:CSU)


PREREQUISITE: English 101 with a grade of 'C' or better. DESCRIPTION: This course, which meets the transfer critical thinking requirement, is designed to develop transfer-ready critical thinking, reading, and writing skills beyond the level achieved in English 101. Based on college-level readings, the course will focus on the development of logical reasoning and analytical and argumentative writing skills with a minimum of 10000 words of student writing submitted over the semester.
