COMPUTER SCIENCE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY 965 – INTRODUCTION TO MICROSOFT NETWORKS
General Information:
This
is a 6-Week class
starting 1/2/2007, ending 2/10/2007.
This course takes place entirely online. No on-campus visits
are required.
Course Description: Prerequisite: CSIT 934 or equivalent experience. This course covers network topics in CompTIA Network+ certification exam. It serves as a general introduction for students who need a foundation in computer networking technology, local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs). It covers network media, topology, network architecture, wired and wireless network standards and protocols. This course is a required prerequisite to enter WLAC’s Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE) or Computer Security training program. Required Materials: Network+ multimedia training CDs with Course Simulation
(Lecture), Lab Simulation (Hands-on lab exercises), and Exam Simulation
(Contents-based practice exams). This CD must be purchased directly from

You may wish to consider purchasing the textbook for the following reasons: First, the text includes an evaluation copy of Windows Server 2003 CD. Although, this CD is not a full functioning production version, it does include those features relevant to this course and other Microsoft/server courses you may take in the future. Second, there is another CD included with the textbook. This CD is referred to as the Student CD. This CD includes, a PowerPoint and MS Word viewer, PowerPoint slides based on the 12 Chapters in the textbook, a comprehension electronic encyclopedia, and an electronic version of the textbook itself. Third, the text is bundled with a lab manual that provides more advanced and complex lab exercises. Some lab exercises will require a network of at least two physical domain controllers.
