ANTHROPOLOGY 101 – HUMAN BIOLOGICAL EVOLUTION (UC:CSU) – 3 UNITS
NOTE: This course satisfies Area 5 (Physical & Biological Science) requirements for the IGETC.
Anthropology 101 presents the scientific approach in unraveling the mystery of the evolution of humankind through investigation of human fossil remains (e.g. the 3.5 million year-old footprints and the “Lucy” skeleton of East Africa), making use of recent DNA research – much of it coming out of the Human Genome Project – and by looking at studies of monkeys and apes so we can better assess our relationship to the other primates. The course examines the dynamic relationship between humans and their environment, and explores scientific explanations for human variation.

This course covers the basic tools and features of ETUDES-NG, the online course management system used by West Los Angeles College and many other colleges, including ITV, Mission College, Los Angeles City College, Harbor College, East Los Angeles College, and Valley College.
Successful completion of this course is required to teach online or hybrid classes.

SPANISH 101A – SPANISH LANGUAGE LABORATORY (CSU) – .5 UNIT
NOTE: This language workshop uses multimedia (VCR, computers and cassettes) to enhance instruction. Students must be enrolled in a Spanish 21 class to attend this lab section.
