ENGLISH 209 – CALIFORNIA LITERATURE

course takes place entirely online. No on-campus visits are required.

Course Description: Prerequisite: English 101. This course presents literature that has been written by Californians and/or that is about California. Students will read, discuss, and analyze a roster of California literature that includes fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and film. The course will consider this literature in historical perspective, thematically and as a basis for literary analysis. Students will write critical papers. Required Materials: Hicks, Jack. et al., The Literature of California: Writings from the Golden State, Volume One. University of California Press, 2000. A novel, title to be announced.
