General Information:

This course takes place entirely online. No on-campus visits are required. 

The course begins on February 13th.  You must access the course by February 19th.

Newly enrolled students must email the instructor to confirm enrollment.  Please do this now by clicking here: chianga@wlac.edu.
 

Students who do not email instructor by February 19th will be dropped.

 


Course Description:

Prerequisite: CS 965 or equivalent experience.

This course introduces the basic concepts of information assurance. Topics include: security baselines, network and application hardening, remote communication security, web and internet security, mail & database security, security policies & procedures, organizations & operational security and computer forensics. It will give students hands-on experience in OS security setting using Windows XP/Server 2003.This course combined with CS980 is also designed to help candidates preparing to take CompTIA Security+ certification exam. MCSE Security and CISSP exam. It is one of the courses leading to AS degree/Certificate in Network and Security management.



Required Materials:

The course will use text book and be supplemented with the software CD. For students who took CS980 before, the software CD serves as a
review and enhancement.

(2)Required software:

This software is required by CS980+CS985-Security+ multimedia training CDs with Course Simulation, Lab Simulation and Exam Simulation. Do not make illegal copy of the software.

Please note that, accessing this program inside the WLAC’s lab is free under a grant program,
outside the lab, you have two options.

Option #1: Internet/web-based CD- require internet connection $49+shipg+tax valid for
one year access

Option #2: Stand-alone CDs-do not require internet connection $79+shipg+tax valid
For longer , students who purchase stand-alone need to pay $5 extra to get internet-based
CD for lab tracking purpose.

Grading Policy:

Grading policy, number of tests and schedule of topics will all be specified in the class syllabus that will be available on the first day of the semester.
