ENGLISH 101 – College Reading and Composition I
General Information: This
course takes place entirely online. No on-campus visits are required.
Newly enrolled students must email the instructor to confirm enrollment. Please do this now by clicking here: spragurl@wlac.edu. Students who do not email instructor by February 19th will be dropped.
Course Description: Prerequisite: Completion of English 28 with a grade of "C" or better or appropriate placement level demonstrated through the English assessment process. In English 101 you will develop argument and research essays, learn critical research skills, and critique a novel. This course will expose you to a variety of cultural arguments in advertising, newspapers, periodicals, and the Internet, and prepare you to interact critically with them. Required Materials: The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald Writer's Reference by Diane Hacker Patterns of Exposition by Robert Schwegler Students will also be required to watch Citizen Kane, directed by Orson Welles, which is available in the Library on the second floor of the Learning Resource Center.
