be necessary to make sure that your online course works correctly.

Netscape 4.7 or higher Choose " Communicator" or "Navigator"  (Macintosh or Windows)

NO AOL  *AOL and Compuserve (AOL/CS) software includes an internal browser-like feature that does not provide full access to the Internet. Students must  minimize AOL/CS once their Internet connection is established and use Internet Explorer or Netscape.  Don't use the AOL/CS version of Netscape or IE. Download a separate, complete, independent version of Internet Explorer or Netscape. This will alleviate frustration associated with many known problems caused by the AOL/CS quasi-browser and its inherent inability to access to a significant percent of the world wide web.

Set Cache Options:

Set your browser's cache properly.

Incorrect cache settings are the cause of nearly all reported technical problems.

Setting Firefox Cache

1. Open a second browser window, delete the address in the URL bar and type about:config

2. Click  Enter to see Firefox settings.

3. Scroll down to  browser.cache.check_doc_frequency

4. Highlight and double click. Change the 3 to 1 in the dialogue box. Click OK.

5. Close window, exit and restart Firefox to enact the change.

Setting Internet Explorer Cache

1. Click on TOOLS
2. Click on Internet Options

3. On the "General" tab under the "Temporary Internet Files" section, click on Settings
4. Check the radio button, "EVERY visit to the page."
5. Click on OK and OK again.

(You might repeat the first two, and click on the "delete files" button to clear the cache (temporary files).

Setting Netscape Cache

1. Click on Edit
2. Click on Preferences
3. Click on Advanced
4. Under Cache, select the radio button "Every time I view the page."

What the above settings do is call the most accurate/recent web pages from the ETUDES server

instead of re-using cached pages (temporary files) stored on your local hard drive.

This way, you will always be sure to access the most recent course pages.

User ID and Password

Remember that your User ID and password are case sensitive and must be entered exactly as described. Having your keyboard set to "caps lock" is often the problem when a student cannot login. Also, confirm that you are in the correct course. Check with Admissions to make sure  you are actually enrolled in the class.

For instructions on how to login to a Classic ETUDES course, click here: Classic ETUDES Login Instructions.

Watch the demo: How to login to an ETUDES online class.

Your Computer

You must have regular, reliable internet access (minimum 56K modem)  to succeed in your course. Make sure you have a back-up plan such as the use of a campus, library, work, or a friend's system in case you experience problems with your own computer or Internet Service Provider.

ETUDES is an internet-based application capable of running on a fairly minimal computer setup so long as it is running a recent version of a properly configured browser (Firefox 1.0, Netscape 4.7+ or  IE 5.5+).
