Tuition, Fees, and Living Expenses

As a public community college, WLAC is able to charge lower fees than private colleges and universities. This gives both California residents and those from other states and countries a cost-savings advantage for the same education that may cost many times more, from the same instructors who may teach at other, more costly institutions.

The following reflects the current list of fees and tuition. This is also listed in the schedule of classes and/or on separate pages on the WLAC web site or included with this literature.

  • Application Fee: $25 (one time only, per application)
  • Semester costs (Effective for the 2007-2008 academic year) [tuition and fees subject to change]
    • Tuition $ 183.00 per unit x 12 units  $2,196.00
    • Enrollment Fees $20.00 per unit x 12 units  $240.00
    • Health fee (mandatory) $11.00  (mandatory, per semester)
    • SEVIS processing fee  $25.00    (mandatory, per semester)
    • Associated Student Fee  $ 7.00    (optional, per semester)
    • Student Representation (mandatory)  $1.00
    • Books and materials  $500.00
    • Medical/Health insurance $60/month x 6 months*             $420.00
  • Total: $3,400.00/semester

Approximate total cost of one academic year = $6,800 plus housing and personal expenses.

* Medical/Health insurance: International F-1 Visa students are required to fulfill the Los Angeles Community College/West Los Angeles College requirement that health, medical and repatriation insurance be in-effect to be enrolled in classes. The insurance program selected by the Los Angeles Community College District is mandatory. Other insurance programs are not accepted.

Housing: Modest rate housing ranges from $450/month, for a shared apartment, to $850/month, for a homestay, with some meals = $8,500 per 10 month period. Other, higher priced facilities will increase this amount. To this must be added food, local transportation, home and school supplies, clothing and entertainment.

Based on the above, the approximate cost for one academic year is $18,000, depending on area of residence and lifestyle of the student.

Financial Support: West Los Angeles College requires a minimum available account of $18,000. This money may belong to either the student or one or more sponsors. (See the Confidential Financial Form, on the Application page).
