West, established in 1969 by the State of California, is located minutes from Playa Del Rey beach, major shopping malls, and movie and production studios including Sony Pictures. We are a two-year community college awarding Associate Degrees and Job Skill Certificates.
For many, West serves as an affordable gateway to prominent universities including UCLA, UC Berkeley, UC Irvine, California State University Northridge, California State University Los Angeles, USC, Stanford, and many other California and U.S. universities. By completing general education requirements through West, a student can then transfer to a university as a Junior and complete a Bachelor's Degree or higher.

All courses at West are taught by faculty, typically with a Masters Degree or higher, from notable universities around the country. The college is fully accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

HOW TO APPLY

To be accepted to WEST you must have:

  1. Diploma/transcripts from a secondary school  (high school) or diploma/transcripts from a U.S. high school or diploma/transcripts from a foreign university
  2. English language proficiency to begin academic program OR start program at West Language Academy for language training.

    Proficiency is verified by one of the following:
    West Language Academy assessment
    WLAC ESL assessment level 5 or above
    English is your native language
    Attendance at a U.S. high school for a minimum of two years
    Attendance at a U.S. college or university with a passing grade in English 101 or equivalent
    International Baccalaureate with an English Language score of 3 or better
    TOEFL minimum score of 450 PBT or 45 IBT; WLAC TOEFL Code is 4964
    IELTS minimum score of 4.5
    iTEP minimum score of 4
    STEP-Eiken minimum score for 2nd grade of at least 75% and Results Pass
    Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) score of "C" or better
    Cambridge General Certificate of Education reflecting A Level Placement
  3. $16,500 available per year for fees and living expenses
    Funds may be from applicant, sponsor, or both
    Funds may be from government scholarship but not corporate or business accounts
    Verify funds with original bank statements
    Other original documentation may be required

Admission Notification 

After you submit a completed International Student Application and all the admission requirements have been met, your application will be evaluated and an admission decision will be made usually within two weeks.

 

Note: An admissions decision may be delayed if your application is incomplete. We will notify you by email usually within one week if you are missing documents or if other requirements have not been met.
