The WLAC Foundation

Since 1974 the West Los Angeles College Foundation has raised funds for scholarship and award programs to recognize superior leadership, academic achievement and community service among West’s students and assist them with unmet financial needs.

The Foundation is poised to grow with the college as Proposition A & AA building projects modernize and expand our beautiful hillside campus.  The Math Science Building, General Classroom Building and Student Services Building will open by the fall of 2009.  A 1,000 car Parking Structure will open in Fall 2008.

To help West grow the Foundation is establishing an Annual Donor Program to focus fundraising and “friend raising” efforts to enhance our scholarship programs and increase outreach efforts throughout our service area.  Annual Donor contributions will fund the Foundation’s new Annual Scholarship Fund initiative which will target incoming students from throughout our service area focusing primarily on our feeder high schools.

Individuals making a donation of $365 annually will be designated “Annual Donors”.  Individuals or organizations making donations of $1,000 or more annually will be recognized as members of the prestigious “President’s Circle”.  90% of “Annual Donors” pledges for the 2008 campaign will go to directly to students through the Annual Scholarship Fund.

The Foundation can commit 90% of Annual Donors pledges to the new Annual Scholarship fund because we have limited overhead expenses which will be offset by a portion of President’s Circle donations for 2008.  Foundation staffing is an ad-hoc volunteer from the Executive Director pro tem to staff that volunteer their time to support Foundation activities and campaigns.

President’s Circle donors who pledge $3,000 or more annually will be identified as a “Supporter” of the Annual Scholarship Fund including display of the sponsors name or corporate logo in Annual Scholarship Fund publications and on the Foundation website.  President’s Circle donors who pledge $6,000 or more annually will receive “Sponsor” recognition for the Annual Scholarship Fund including display of the sponsors name or corporate logo in Annual Scholarship Fund publications and on the Foundation website, and have $5,000 in scholarships awarded in the sponsor’s name annually.
