What is Financial Aid
Financial aid is made available by federal and state governments and private sources in the form of grants, scholarships, employment, and loans. This assistance makes it possible for students to continue their education beyond high school, even if they and/or their family cannot meet the full cost of the college they choose to attend.

Tuition & Fees
WLACremains one of the most affordable college nationwide. To determine a student's financial need, the financial aid office will take into consideration the student's cost of attendance and expected family contribution (see Cost of Attendance table below).

Cost of Attendance Table
The cost of attendance is based on the Student Expenses and Resources Survey (SEARS) data and updated for three years of inflation using the estimated California Consumer Price Index.
The following table shows the 2007-2008 Cost of Attendance budget for a student living at home with parents and a student living away from their parents:

The financial aid office may also add the following to a student's cost of attendance, if applicable:
- Out of State Non-Resident Fee: $173 per unit (in addition to the $20 per unit fee)
- Foreign Citizen Non-Resident Fee: $183 per unit (in addition to the $20 per unit fee)
- Child Care cost: $1,000 annually
- Direct Loan Origination/Insurance Fee: $88 annually or $44 (one semester)
