SKATEBOARDER IN CRITICAL CONDITION AFTER COLLIDING WITH VEHICLE

About 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, a young man riding his skateboard on the roadway down the steep section of Stocker Street collided with a vehicle at the intersection of Freshman. The young man was 18-year-old Elijah Dymant, a resident of Beverly Hills, according to his identification. Dymant is not a WLAC student. Dymant sustained severe trauma to the head and has since undergone two surgeries at UCLA Medical Center where he remains in a coma in critical condition. We do not know at this time if he was here on college business.

Stocker and Freshman are County roads that ring the campus and carry college traffic. While not technically part of the campus, they are patrolled by the LA County Sheriff Department.

The driver, a WLAC student, was not held at fault, according to Deputy Leander Davis, the lead LA County Sheriff officer assigned to the college. Skateboarding and biking on a college campus, particularly at high speed is both unwise and not permitted at West, explained Deputy Davis. When riders are spotted on campus, for everyone's safety, please report them to the Sheriff's office at (310) 287-4314...read more
