The ceramics department has invited Steven Portigal, a local Culver City ceramics artist and professor at Cerritos College, to come and give a lecture Wednesday, November 16, 2011, at 8:30 p.m. in the ceramics studio, FA-105.  Steven Portigal has over years of experience in ceramics.

MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR GRANTS SUPPORT TRIO PROGRAMS

Recently, West’s Institute for Student Excellence (WISE) was awarded two, Federally funded, multi-year, grants totaling over $1.2 million from the U.S. Department of Education, TRIO. CROSS COUNTRY ATHLETES ADVANCE TO STATE

Alex Amankwah and Shawnice Williams qualified for the State Championships on Friday after finishing as the 3rd and 15th individuals on non-qualifying teams at the Southern California Championships. 

 

Amankwah and Williams will be one of 25 individuals who will represent the South Region at the 2011 State Cross Country Championships on November 19th.

 

Under rainy and cold conditions at Cucamonga-Gusti Regional Park in Ontario, Alex Amankwah completed the 4 mile course in a personal best 21 minutes and 20 seconds.  The graduate of LA High School will be joined by former 400 meter runner and Paramount High School graduate, Shawnice Williams, who qualified after finishing the 5000 meter course in a personal best 19:56.

DESTINATION: ACCREDITATION                                                                         NOV 7 UPDATE

West’s self study report, posted at the accreditation webpage -  http://www.wlac.edu/accreditation/index.html - is being completed with input received from Deborah Kaye’s and Alice Taylor’s edits, from Senators who read standards and reported on those to the Senate and from a reading group that worked on October 7th.  The self study report is on the agenda as an action item for both the College Council and the Academic Senate.  On Wednesday, November 30th, we deliver 16 hard copies plus  an electronic copy to the District in preparation for presentation to the Board on December 14th.  Thanks to all who’ve participated in this effort on behalf of our students!

ATHLETIC FIELD & TRACK CLOSURES (updated Nov 17, 2011)

The Athletic Field & Track are closed to walkers / joggers on Nov. 30  3:00pm - 5:30pm (WildWood School);  Dec. 1 3:00pm - 5:30pm (New Road School);  Sundays 9:00am - 4:00pm (Simon Bolivar Soccer League) and Daily from 1:00 - 3:00 (WLAC Soccer Class).

College and community organizations using the field may close the gates earlier than the times stated above to prepare for their events. Additionally, the events may run over their time slots.

Please check back regularly for updates to the Athletic Field & Track schedule.

The track opens at 6:30am and closes at dark. Personal trainers who charge their clients must rent time on the track or any other athletic facility. Use of the turf field requires a permit.

NAMED 2011 BEST PLACE TO WALK & JOG (Culver City News)  Walkers and joggers are also welcome to use the perimeter of the campus and College Road which connects the campus to Jefferson.

If your dog is with you, please keep him/her on a leash and scope the poop. Thanks!
