Westside Extension Instructor Crowned "Ms. Senior California"

This summer, Syni Patterson, long-time Westside Extension instructor and director of the Glow Girls youth program won the Ms. Senior California Pageant. From October 3 through October 7, she will represent California in the competition to be crowned Ms. Senior America.

 

"Who's Who In Black America" Includes Business Professor

Business Professor Gwen Thomas was invited to be included in the coming edition of "Who's Who in Black America." Professor Thomas has been with West for over 21 years receiving numerous campus honors during her tenure. She has served on the Board of Directors for Los Angeles’ 24,000 member West Angeles Church of God in Christ and on the Jefferson Park Community Improvement Project. Additionally, she has made trips to Africa to donate children’s books, school supplies and shoes.

 

 

 

WHERE IS ASO? 

The ASO office is still located in A-5 and has not moved to The D Village. Student ID’s are free of charge. To get their student IDs, students must show their Registration Receipt ("print-out") and a Photo ID (driver’s license, state ID, passport).

 

Our hours are:

 M & Th 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  |  T & W  8:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.  |  F 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

 

The Health Center is also still located in A9 and has not moved. We will notify you when both our buildings are moved to their new location.

CROSS COUNTRY

The West LA College men's cross country team finished fourth at the Mt. Sac 10 Team Invitational, on September 17. The Wildcats were part of a competitive field that also included district rival East LA College, on the famous Mt. Sac campus course.  Mt. Sac who is ranked #5 in the state placed first in the team competition, followed by Long Beach and Santiago Canyon

 

The men's team was led by sophomore Jose Gonzalez. He ran the 4-mile course in a time of 23:13, an improvement of more than a minute on his time from the season-ending Southern California Championships last season that was held on the same challenging course. Gonzalez's time was good for a 11th-place finish. The individual champion was Andres Zavala from the Mt. Sac with a time of 22:06.

 

The Wildcats' second-best finisher was freshman Anthony Riley who finished 19th place with a time of 24:00. Sophomore Miguel Ruiz and freshman Luis Aparicio finished next for the Wildcats and rounding out West LA's scoring was Isaac Gray.

 

The Wildcats are back in action September 24th for the Western State Conference Preview meet in Oxnard.

SEPT 15 BOARD RESOLUTIONS:

The Board of Trustees proclaims the month of October as Cultural Diversity Month in the Los Angeles Community College District.

The Board of Trustees commends AIDS Walk Los Angeles and encourages all LACCD students and employees to support the walk on October 17, 2010.

AUG 25 BOARD RESOLUTIONS:

That the Board of Trustees proclaims September 11, 2010 as “Patriot Day” and encourages its employees and students to commemorate this day by participating in local community observances.

The Board of Trustees proclaims September 15 – October 15, 2010 as Latino Heritage Month and encourages faculty to integrate and share the contributions of Latinos with their students via their curriculum.

That the Board of Trustees of the Los Angeles Community College District hereby declares September 17-23, 2010 as United States Constitution Week throughout the District.
