The National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) is accepting submissions for the Community College Week-NISOD Student Essay Contest. The winning essay is awarded a total of $3,000+ in prizes to be shared with the student author, the outstanding faculty/staff/administrator featured in the essay, and the student's community college. The essay prompt is: "Describe your most rewarding learning experience with a faculty, staff or administrator at your college."  400-word minimum, 500-word maximum. Deadline is November 8, 2010. SCHOLAR-ATHLETES OF THE MONTH:

Tiffany Melendez - Women's Soccer
Tiffany is a second year student-athlete at West, and a member of the inaugural Women’s Soccer team, established in 2008.  She scored the winning goal in the team’s recent win against LA Mission College.  Her ultimate goal is to transfer to a four-year institution to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Pre-Physical Therapy. ...read more

 

 

 

Spencer Phillips - Football
Two-year football letterman Spencer Phillips came all the way from Oregon to start part-time as a freshman for the Wildcats, then returned this year to earn the starting job at quarterback.  He is also the offensive team captain and a team leader for the Wildcats on and off the field.  Spencer is a dedicated student who has worked hard to earn a cumulative 3.5 GPA and plans to transfer to a four-year institution to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Business Economics. ...read more
