WILDCATS UPDATE

ALUMNUS REED

DRAFTED BY

BALTIMORE RAVENS

After becoming a national record-setting wide receiver at Pasadena City College under Coach Marguet Miller, now the Wildcats Head Football Coach, David Reed enrolled at West to complete his Associate Degree needed to gain NCAA eligibility. He then transferred to the University of Utah where he earned national recognition at their BCS bowl game. Last month, Reed realized his life-long dream of joining the NFL when he was drafted in the 5th round by the Baltimore Ravens. Other professional football players from West have included Rashied Davis, Keyshawn Johnson, and Hall of Famer, Warren Moon. (Reed photo provided courtesy of the Baltimore Ravens. Wildcats Advance to

State Championships

With 3rd Place Victory

at S. Cal Championships

Men & Women Take 4x100 Meter Relay Titles   |  17 Athletes Qualify for State

The West Los Angeles College women’s track and field team finished 3rd Saturday at the Southern California Championships at Saddleback College. The men's team finished in 6th place. (Mt. Sac won the women's title, and Cerritos was second.  Riverside won the men’s championship.) Both the men’s and women’s 400 meter Wildcats relay team’s won the titles.  This is the first time in 10 years that the men and women from the same school won the relay. Considering neither team was ranked in the SoCal top 20 in at the beginning of the season, it was a huge day for the Wildcats track and field program.

The Southern California Regional Championships also is the qualifying meet for the state meet. The top-four finishers in lane races and top six finishers in distance and field events advance to the California State Championships at Antelope Valley College on May 21st and 22nd.  The heptathlon is the first event and begins at 10 a.m., on both Friday and Saturday.

Complete results from the championship are available at www.gocollegetrack.com and most races, including West LA’s 4x100 relay victories, can be viewed on www.superfittv.com.

ATMs Being Replaced

The California Credit Union ATMs will be removed from LACCD campuses. The District does not have a contract with the California Credit Union. The ATM at West is at the corner of A-13 and will be removed on June 30, 2010. In its place, there will be two new ATMs.  One will be located in the Bookstore and the other will be located in PAWS.  These ATMs are part of the District’s new system for the distribution of financial aid to our students.  We have been assured that they will also be capable of providing cash withdrawals (for a fee) just as any other ATM.  They will not offer other banking services.
