FLU NOTE:

As flu season approaches, remember you can turn to WestWeek for any urgent updates or www.wlac.edu/events/flu for background information.

H1N1 FLU UPDATE: On Friday Sept. 4, a student reported having symptoms suspected of being the H1N1 flu. The student's doctor, as a precautionary measure, is treating the student and advised the person to stay out of school for several days until recovered. Should any student believe they are experiencing extreme flu-like symptoms, they should go immediately to the Health Center (A-9 near Admissions) or go to the doctor.

As advised by the Center for Disease Control and the Los Angeles Community College District administration, it is unlikely that the campus will close in the event of student or employee being diagnosed with the H1N1 Flu (Swine Flu). Instead, the campus will promote healthy practices on campus. However, Faculty/Students should be prepared to move into a distance learning format for class in the event that the instructor and/or a large number of students become ill. Faculty and students should be sure they have each other's respective contact information. Please do report any suspected/confirmed case of H1N1 (Swine Flu) to your supervisor/instructor. This information will be kept confidential.

Instructors do have the authority to ask students to leave the classroom who are clearly ill. This should be done discretely and students should be directed to the WLAC Health Center (A-9) -- Hours: M,W,Th 8:30am-5:00pm; T 10:30am-7:00pm; F 9:00am-12:00pm.
