MONEY MATTERS

The WLAC Community,

In keeping with the explanation given at yesterday’s College Council meeting, I want to inform the community of the following two mid-year fiscal strategies:

The college will “Conform with the Chancellor’s travel expense reduction and freeze.”  Travel [not mileage] within the state is frozen for the balance of the fiscal year.  Each request for out-of-state travel must be funded by a Specially Funded or Categorical program, individually recommended by a Vice President, and approved by the President.

The      The college will “Implement a purchasing freeze.”  In compliance with Chancellor Drummond’s February 5th bulletin requiring an early District-wide Unrestricted Fund procurement deadline, effective immediately the college is implementing a campus-wide purchasing freeze on all program 10100 accounts.  Only purchases funded by a Specially Funded or Categorical program, individually recommended by a Vice President, and approved by the Vice President of Administrative Services will be funded for the balance of this fiscal year.

I have therefore approved my last regular program 10100 purchase order for the balance of the fiscal year. The only exceptions will be purchases that involve safety or security, athletic travel, utilities, equipment maintenance, or equipment repairs.  Even in these cases, if the proposed purchase can reasonably be funded by a Specially Funded or Categorical program, that will be required.

 John R. Oester

College-wide set aside: The $250,000 college-wide set-aside proposal has been approved. Hard copies are available for pick-up from Ashanti Lyles and Bryne Owen-Deatry in the Office of Instruction. A link will be posted on WLAC Faculty/Staff page under "Documents" by mid-week.
