Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) Certificate
This certificate consists of one course offered in the fall and spring:
- Nursing 399A: An introduction to the health care field, working with residents/patients in the long term care facility, the acute care setting, and the home care setting. Emphasis is given to safety principles, infection control, methods for providing physical care, and emotional and social support.

Geriatric Care Technician Certificate
The Geriatric Care Technician is a new role that meets the increased needs of an aging population.
This certificate consists of two courses:
- Nursing 399A (or have a current CNA Certificate in the state of CA)
- Nursing 398 (offered in the winter and summer).

Certified Home Health Aide Certificate
Upon completion of the CNA Certificate at WLAC, students can continue to the Certified Home Health Aide Certificate. The Home Health Aide course builds on the knowledge, skills and abilities of Nurse Assistants and focuses on the skills needed to provide care for home bound individuals and assisted living facilities. This course is approved by the Department of Health Services. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be certified as a Home Health Aide Provider. Pre-requisites for the course are successful completion of Nursing 399A or be a Certified Nurse Assistant in the state of California.
This certificate consists of two courses:
- Nursing 399A (or have a current CNA Certificate in the state of CA)
- Nursing 399B.
