Computer Applications and Office Technology (CAOT)

NEW !! State Approved & Transcripted Low Unit Certificate of Achievement in Legal Secretary

Legal Secretaries work in attorney’s offices or governmental agencies. They handle correspondence, prepare documents, manage communications, calendar court dates, etc. Personal discretion, organization, and the ability to handle a variety of activities are necessary abilities. This is within a growth field, with a move away from traditional clerical duties to more time and communications management activities. The certificate is hosted in Computer Science and Application division and was approved by State chancellor on Nov. 2, 2009 with T.O.P. code 0514.10; unique program code 15011.
   

Requirement for Certificate of Achievement - total 17 units

Paralegal 10 ( or Law10) Intro. to Legal Assistant Paralegal - 3 units-fall & spring

CAOT-84 (MS-WORD) Word Processing Concepts - 3 units-fall & spring

CAOT-39 (WordPerfect) Word Processing Operations - 3 units-offered fall only

CAOT-79 W.P. Equipment Operation - 3 units-offered spring only

CAOT-93 Legal Document Production CAOT-93 - 2 units-offered fall & spring

CAOT-23 ABC Legal Secretary Procedures -3 units-offered spring only

Except for Paralegal 10, these classes require the ability to type and the successful completion of CSIT-901 (Intro to Computers), or, demonstration of computer literacy to the instructor. CSIT-901 may be taken concurrently with CAOT-84 or 39. Adobe Acrobat program is installed in CE105A and will be covered in the above word processing courses.

Students who completed the certificate requirement can e-mail Laurent Phung (PhungL@wlac.edu) for a Certificate Petition form or come to CE101 to fill the form, Laurent will submit it and follow up with the Admission office.
