Wildcats extend their winning streak to 6

WEST LA 56, Santa Monica 51
A cold gym, made for a cold shooting half for both West LA and Santa Monica College at SMC. SMC took a 1 point lead into the locker room leading 23-22 at the half. The Wildcats shot only 3 of 9 from the free throw line in the 1st half, while SMC was 7 for 10.
The second half proved to be a different story. At one point, WEST led by as much as 11 points. SMC made its runs, be fell short 56-51.
Jade Neal scored 16 of her 18 points in the second half. Cheyenne Bonam and Ashlie Bruner scored 12 and 11, respectfully for WEST. The win is the 6th in a row for the Wildcats, who are now tied for 1st place in the Western State Conference's South division. The loss was the 2nd in conference play for SMC.
The Wildcats improve to 11-5, while the Corsairs fall to 8-10. Next up for WEST is a 7 pm start time Wednesday versus Glendale College.

Bonam named WSC-South Player of the Week
|
Cheyenne Bonam is the Western State Conference South division, Player of the Week. Bonam, a 5'7 combo guard is a Health major, in her second year at WEST.
Cheyenne led all scorers with 23 points. The former Washington Prep standout had an excellent shooting night going 6-9 from the floor. She shot 80% from three point land, going 4 for 5. Bonam also added 9 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists. |

Bonam gets hot against Santa Barbara

WEST LA 70, Santa Barbara 54
West LA led wire to wire in it's 70-54 win over Santa Barbara, at The Den. The Wildcats led at half 36-31, thanks in part to going 11 for 13 from the free throw line. The Wildcats defense gave the visiting Vaqueros fits, throughout the game limiting them to 1-8 (12.5%) from beyond the 3 point arch in the 1st half.
In the second half, the defense continued the lead the way for WEST. Santa Barbara shot just 29.4% in the second half, including 15.4% from 3 point land.
Cheyenne Bonam (Washington Prep) led all scorers with 23 points. The 5'7 sophomore had an excellent shooting night going 6-9 from the floor. She shot 80% from three point land, going 4 for 5. Bonam also added 9 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists.
Jade Neal (Culver City) finished with 16 points and 4 rebounds. Sophomore Annie Currie (Carson) returned to her All Western State Conference form from last season. Currie tallied 12 points, 18 rebounds, 3 steals and 5 assists. Ashlie Bruner (Palisades) and Shandrea Fortune (Morningside) added 9 and 8 points, respectively.
West LA improves it's record to 10-5, while Santa Barbara drops to 12-7
Next up for WEST, the Wildcats travel to Santa Monica College. The January 12th game begins at 3 p.m.. |

Neal's 19 points not enough for the Wildcats

El Camino 56, WEST LA 51
El Camino (2-1) withheld a fierce comeback to defeat WEST (3-3) tonight at the PEC. El Camino went into halftime with a 11 point lead. However, in the second half WEST turned up the pressure. The Wildcats forced nu...merous turnovers and took the lead with 3 minutes to go.
ECC made a run of its own, culminated by a 26 foot three pointer from Faith Matsuda. El Camino would not look back as Matsuda made 3 of 4 free throws in the last minute.
Jade Neal (Culver City) led all scorers with 17 points, 9 rebounds and 3 steals. Ashlie Bruner tossed in 14 points for the Wildcats. Annie Currie scored 11 points to go with a career-high 21 rebounds.
WEST takes on Palomar in the 1st round of the Cypress College tournament, on November 30th.

 Wildcats take care of Glendale

WEST faced the host Glendale College in the 3rd place game at GCC. WLA came out strong and led by 8 at the halftime break. WEST played some of its best defense of the young season, holding Glendale to just 36% from the floor. Glendale's poor shooting continued from beyond the arc, as the Vaq's shot just 3 of 21 (14%).
Jade Neal's 15 foot jumper put WEST up by 8 points at the half time break. Glendale then was able to cut the lead six, however, Cheyenne Bonam replied with a 3 pointer at the 10:12 mark remaining in the game.
GCC fought hard to make it close, but the Wildcats sealed the deal after Bonam connected on 5 of 6 free throws in the last 3 minutes.
The win improved WEST record to 6-3, in its last three tournaments.
Ashlie Bruner and Cheyenne Bonam, led all scorers with 19. Annie Currie contributed 14.
Bruner was named to the All-Tournament team.

WEST LA defeated Antelope Valley in the 1st round of the Glendale College Tournament. West shot 53.8% in the first half while holding AVC to just 43.8% from the floor. The Wildcats who led wire to wire, built the lead up to 18 at one point. Ashlie Bruner (Palisades) led all scorers with 25 points, going 9-9 from the free throw stripe.
Annie Currie finished with 16 points and 9 rebounds. While Cheyenne Bonam tossed in 12 for the Wildcats.
West LA plays in the semi final game tomorrow night at 5 pm. They will face the Ventura/Fullerton winner.

Bonam drops 19 on LA Trade Tech in win
West LA 69, LA Trade Tech 51
West took care of LA Trade Tech in last night's opener, 69-51. Cheyenne Bonam (Washington Prep) led all scorers with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Jade Neal (Culver City) tossed in 16 points in her 1st game for the Wildcats. Shandrea Fortune (14 points/5 rebounds) and Annie Currie (10 points / 17 rebounds) also had productive nights for WEST.
WEST turned up the defensive pressure getting 22 steals for the game. Ashlie Bruner (Palisades), had 8 takeaways.
