 Wildcats take care of Glendale

For the 1st time since December 4th, the Wildcats were at full strength in their Western State Confernce contest at Glendale College. WEST came out strong and took a 30-19 advantage, into the halftime break. In the 1st half, the Wildcat defense gave GCC considerable problems. Glendale was limited to just 18.6% from the floor, including 1-10 from beyond the arc in the half.
In the second half WEST stretched the lead to as much as 21, before exchanging baskets late. The Wildcats maintained control of the game with strong defense , to prevail 63-50.
Shaniqua Patterson [Lynwood] led all scorers with 17 points. Shaneva Hayward [Univ. of Maryland-Eastern Shore/View Park HS] continued her double figuring scoring with 11. Angel Smith (View Park) 8 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks.
Next up for WEST: Saturday 3 pm at College of the Canyons

The Wildcats return home for two home games on Thursday (12/15) and Saturday (12/17) against South Coast Conference foes. Compton (0-4) visits West on Thursday at 7pm.
Saturday LA Southwest makes it's way to Culver City for a 2 pm start time. The Cougars (2-7) are led by 1st year Head Coach and former West LA assistant coach, Denise Woods.

Hayward's 24 not enough at PCC

(Pasadena, CA) A cold shooting first half for WEST, led to a 63-42 loss at Pasadena City College. The Wildcats defense was strong in the 1st half holding PCC to 25.6% from the floor. Chanea Adams, Shaniqua Patterson and Nijah Lashaw worked hard defensively against the Lancer perimeter players. West forced Pasadena to take difficult and contested shotsfrom beyond the arc. PCC was 1 of 11 from 3 point territory in the 1st half for 9%.
Shaneva Hayward was limited with an injury and four first half fouls. Hayward rebounded to finish with 24 points, going 7-8 from the free throw line. Angel Smith pulled down 10 rebounds to go along with 2 blocks. Sophomore Chanea Adams connected on three 3 pointers to finish with 9 points and played a game high 38 minutes. Blen Solomon, making her 1st career start, pulled down a career-high 6 rebounds.
For the 2nd consecutive weekend, WLAC will play in the 3rd place game. The Wildcats will face Western State Conference North opponent, Pierce College at 2pm.

12.4.11 Allyn Smith (Fairfax) was named to the All Tournament team at the 28th Annual Cypress College Lady Charger Tournament. The 5'8 sophomore guard pulled down 10 rebounds in the 3rd place game, won by West LA.
