There is no vaccine. The best way not to get sick from this or any respiratory virus is to regularly get an annual flu shot, stay informed about the situation via official health agency websites, and proactively use the following preventative steps:
-
Avoid close contact with people who are sick and stay home if you are sick.
-
Frequently wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
-
Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
-
Cover your cough and/or sneeze into your elbow; or if you use a tissue immediately throw it into the trash.
-
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
